Chronology of cameras Sida
The invention of the Sida camera and its derivatives is commonly attributed to Fritz Kaftanski, who is more well-known for his Fex cameras. However, to be precise, the credit belongs to both Karl Gumpel and Fritz Kaftanski, as evidenced by the patents filed for the precursor of this camera.
The Sida camera was manufactured in Berlin during the 1930s. It had several variations that differed in terms of materials, technical operation, and more. The film used was specific, producing negatives of 24 x 24 mm. The lens was an 8/35 mm.
Years later, after the war, a French version of the camera would emerge, called the Sidax, made from bakelite. Equivalent models were manufactured under license in other parts of the world, including Britain and Italy.

Ce modèle est un Sida Standard en fonte d'aluminium. Ce dernier est de couleur kaki.
Le boîtier est un évolution du Sida corrigeant ses défauts de jeunesse. Cette évolution a nécessité la refonte des moules pour améliorer l'étanchéité à la lumière du dos vis à vis du corps du boîtier ainsi que la transformation de la chambre noire devenant pyramidale. Cette modification nécessite le retournement de l'obturateur juste derrière l'objectif qui a pour conséquence d’avoir le déclencheur en face avant et le levier de pose en bas.
La tirette latérale permet de basculer de la position T (Time), correspondant à une vitesse de 1/25ème de seconde, à la position M (Moment).
Étonnamment, le mot Standard définissant le nom du modèle n'est visible que sur la boite d'emballage, d’où les erreurs fréquentes de dénominations constatées sur certains sites, voir certaines littératures.
